Welcome to Voicemail โ a newsletter about branding and messaging for B2B product marketers who want to bring their messaging to life.
In 2025 Iโm reading some of the greatest advertising books ever written, analyzing the shit out of them, and reporting all the insights back to you. If that sounds like your jam, keep reading (itโs free!) or sign up to get these letters delivered right to your inbox.
Hi friends,
Howโs it going? Enjoying the weather?
Here in the Netherlands things are starting to get gorgeous. The dandelions have pushed their stubborn yellow heads out of the earth and are standing like sentinels throughout my neighborhood. I planted violets last weekend. Iโm writing this from my balcony while my wet laundry dances in the wind.
I love it. I always forget how powerful spring is until itโs literally at my doorstep. I feel like a new woman every year.
And with that energy, Iโve got a big update to share:
As of today, Iโm officially calling myself a GTM Brand Strategist โ not a copywriter.
Deep breath. Weโre doing this.
Pfew. There it is. Itโs out.
If Iโm honest, this is a super scary move for me.
I love copywriting at a molecular level. Letting go of that word feels like shedding an old identity.
Honestly, itโs been emotional โ like closing the door on a past version of myself.
But, itโs time.
Over the last four years, Iโve stepped up pretty massively. Iโve launched a bunch of products into the world. Iโve built several brands from the ground up. Iโve worked with billion-dollar companies to help them get their voices heard.
Most meaningfully though? Iโve helped dozens of clients find a truer, more magnetic version of themselves โ and thatโs the work Iโm most proud of.
The truth is, I have always felt that my purpose on this planet is to make people feel less alone and to help them see a better version of who they already are.
^Thatโs my superpower. Iโm good at it. And the more I think through it, the more I realize that brand strategy work is how I can do it at scale.
So, thatโs it. Thatโs where Iโm going. Brand strategy. I am choosing to view this as a natural progression and a promotion (which is hilarious because itโs also my first promotion ever).
I really couldnโt be more excited about where things are going. I feel unstuck for the first time in a while.
So, whatโs changing?
Well, the business obviously has a new look, designed by the fabulous Katy Davies. Iโm highkey obsessed with the work sheโs done with me over the past few months. She really helped me take my ideas and translate it into a visual identity that feels sophisticated, intentional, and playful.
However, more than visuals, this shift reflects a deeper change.
From here on out, my focus for new projects is on high-concept brand strategy and creative messaging โ not โjustโ copy.
That ^ means Iโm digging my heels into positioning, point of view, messaging, and creative to help businesses create brands and campaigns that actually say something meaningful.
Iโm also working on a really exciting offer that covers the entire brand process from positioning to visual identity.
Iโll share more details soon, but I can say this: If you're a B2B SaaS company planning a full rebrand this year โ including visual identity โ and you like my style, drop me a note. Iโve got something built just for you.
In the meantime though, this newsletter will remain largely the same.
In fact, reading Breakthrough Advertising was actually what cracked open this new direction. So, you can still expect semi-regular missives on things like:
The best copywriting books ever written
How to bridge the gap between messaging and creative
How to use writing to bring your message to life
Itโll just come from a slightly higher-level view, with more insights from real branding projects โ and (hopefully) contribute more to the bigger conversations happening in B2B.
Thank you for being here. โจ
I know your inbox is crowded, and I take your subscription seriously. I only want to send when I have something important to say โ and Iโm kind of ready to break my silence.
